Skiing/snowboarding

The “Portes du Soleil” is a unique ski area of 12 linked resorts along the boarders of France & Switzerland, they can all be accessed with the same ski pass. These 12 resorts are Abondance, Avoriaz 1800, La Chapelle d’Abondance, Chatel, Les Gets, Morzine, Champery, Morgins, Val d’Iilliez, Les Crosets, Champoussin, Torgon and Linga.
With 650km of pistes climbing from 1000 to 2460m and 215 lifts you can spend the week wherever takes your fancy in the largest skiing area in the world.
Our closest resort is Morzine which is just a 10 minute drive away. It is a beautiful family resort, an old market town where the architecture has kept its traditional charm. There is a vast amount for all ages, traditional festivals, the cuisine, culture, music, dancing, sporting events and shows.

Just across the river from us, a 5 minute drive to the telecabine, is the family resort of La Grande Terche in St Jean d’Aulps.
It offers skiers the majestic backgrounds of the Roc d’Enfer with scenery of the Combe de Graydon and views over the Dents du Midi in Switzerland and Lake Geneva.
ESF provide ski or boarding lessons for adults & children at “La Grande Terche”. There is a creche “Les petits Loups” on the way up to the telecabine.

Ski Hire

We work very closely with the company www.doorstepskis.com. Willie from Door-step skis will turn up at the chalet at a time convenient to you with all the hire kit that you require. He will then collect it again at the end of your holiday saving you time and hassle at the shop and allowing you to get stright up ibto the slopes on your first morning. He will also service your own kit for you during your week here if needed.

Ski & Surf lessons

Our local station "La Grande Terche" works with the ESF who have English speaking instructors. We would be happy to organise either group or private lessons for you if required.
The ESF also operate from Ardent which is linked to the whole of the "Portes du Soleil", the other company there for lessons is the Alpine Avoriaz ski school, again we will be happy to organise lessons for your group, for more information please see www.alpineavoriaz.com.

Thonon - Nearest town on Lake Geneva with funicular down to the waterfront, restaurants, children’s play areas, fantastic market on Thursday mornings.
Evian – Just along from Thonon on Lake Geneva with spa, casino, beautiful waterfront, restaurants, children’s play areas.
Yvoire - Traffic free, beautiful old lakeside town and 700 year old castle with “Jardin des Cinq Sens”, plenty of restaurants and little shops, just 45 minutes away.
Aqua Park – choose from Jungle land, Captain Kids land or Pardise land – fun for all the family in Le Bouveret, Switzerland, 70 minutes from Chalet Abbaye.
Montriond Lake – beautiful and easy forest trails with waterfalls down to the lake which has three restaurants.
Outdoor playground in Morzine – by the river with funicular up to the town.
Excursions in Morzine - The Dairy, Old town guided visit, slate factory, history of Savoie exhibition, shopping & cafes.                      
Sleigh rides –in Morzine or Avoriaz.                                           
Ice-skating – indoor in Morzine or outside in Les Gets.
